Hi Everyone!
In stark contrast to Brian’s hilly run from last Wednesday, this Wednesday (February 12th) brings some fun ON THE FLAT!
We’ll be doing a joyful little workout on the track at Riverbank State Park (weather permitting). And for those of you who haven’t run on the track before (or maybe it’s been a few years since your school/college track days 😉), don’t be put off: running on the track is A LOT of fun! It’s a great opportunity to focus on your running: you run at your own pace and you work to achieve the goals you set for yourself. However, you’ll also get a real sense of running as a team because we’ll all be running the same route (and you’ll be seeing the same people over and over and over)… And if that doesn’t convince you, how about the fact that there are restrooms at Riverbank?
WE WILL MEET AT RIVERSIDE DRIVE AND WEST 138TH ST AT 7:30 PM. (If you’re running late, you can join us at the track itself ~7:40 PM.)
This intersection is at Riverbank’s southern entrance, a block from the 1-train’s 137 St-City College station. (Note that the last northbound 2-3 express stop is 96th, then it’s five stops on the 1-train to 137th.)
We will warm up by jogging to the track and doing one lap…then the fun shall begin!
The workout: 200 m repeats – suitable for all levels of runner
The details:
1. 8-10 x 200 m, with 20 seconds recovery between each 200 m
2. 4 min recovery
3. Repeat the above x 2 (total of 3 sets)
You will need:
a watch
enthusiasm
smiles (they make you run faster)
I’m not going to be doing the workout (I get to inspire/motivate/encourage you all), so will be happy to hold small items so that you can get the most out of the run.
If plans need to change (e.g., because of weather), I’ll post before 5:30 PM Wednesday. Any questions, please feel free to PM me, or we can chat in person on Wednesday. Can’t wait to see you then!!
Gill
