In the interest of safety (because every square inch of Central Park is crammed with marathon-training runners), we’ll venture off-campus for this week’s Wednesday workout. Yay to everyone in training, we’ll be cheering on race days, but we’re a few weeks from when marathon season ends and the park will seem vacant for a few months.
This week we will run repeats on the E91 block between Second and Third Avenues. This is a big-time favorite, long enough (300 yards per) to work the heart and legs, just enough incline to make it interesting.
WE WILL MEET AT EAST 91ST AND THIRD AVENUE AT 630p WEDNESDAY and NOT AT THE USUAL SPOT IN CENTRAL PARK behind The Met. There will be a short warmup, although best to arrive prepared.
The workout:
8-12 repeats, working on the uphill and recovery on the downhill.
Bring your watch please! We will target 85-percent effort for each repeat, remembering elapsed time for the first 2-3 and then making every effort to run successive repeats within 2-4 seconds of that time.
There is no drinking fountain near this spot, although several nearby bodegas. I am happy to watch backpacks, extra layers, fluid bottles and chocolate delicacies. Bring your watch!
