Can you believe it’s been two years (!) since we ran some Wednesday night workouts? We’re reprising a favorite for Res Dogs Red Week, the stairs-hill combo. While it may be a little warm, most of this route is 1] in shade with 2] a drinking fountain nearby and 3] deli across Central Park West for more than water.
WE WILL MEET AT WEST DRIVE AND 102ND CROSS ROAD AT 630p Wednesday, NOT BEHIND THE MET (!!!) because a warmup from our usual meeting spot would be too long. If you are late, or if it is more convenient, meet us as we finish our warmup about 640p on the southeast corner of CPW and Central Park North (W110th), or at the bottom of the stairs at that corner. (It’s practically atop the 110th B-C station.)
The workout is 6-8 repeats of a triangle-shaped course:
—First (and shortest) leg uphill with some stairs in the middle, for developing leg drive and momentum
—Second (longest) leg a downhill on the west Harlem hill, for maintaining form (especially when fatigued)
—Flat recovery back to the start
For distance calculations, the warmup will be ~0.95k/0.6mi, each circuit ~0.7k/0.45mi.
Per usual, once we reach the circuit’s start I will happily safeguard extra layers, bags, water bottles, hydration belts and any cups of rice pudding from that wonderful diner I visited a few weeks ago in Freeport, Ill.
See you Wednesday!
Brett
