While Pete is overseas emptying a last few bottles of aged post-marathon fluids, we’ll enjoy a Wednesday Tuesday speed workout that takes us back to one of our dependable sites: the lower loop between Tavern and East 72nd entrance.
We’ll run 4-5×1600 meters (just short of 1 mile) at half marathon goal pace with 400-meter jog recovery.
This is an excellent distance for solidifying our ability to lock into a pace and keep it throughout a workout. We’ll have an intermediate split point at the crosswalk just west of the Seventh Avenue exit from the park, which will help adjust pacing if needed.
As usual the marathon training group will hit the drive early for a warmup of 1-3 miles. Those of us not in marathon training will meet on the beautiful Reservoir Bridge at the South Pump House just north of the 86th Transverse and warm up to Tavern. If you are late or it’s more convenient, everyone will assemble on the bridal path in front of Tavern at ~740p.
This should be one of the last warm nights for Wednesday Tuesday workouts, enjoy the weather while you can!
